The Covenant for Safe Application of Medical Technology describes what is needed to use instruments and equipment safely. The principle is simple: a safe product in the hands of a trained user.
Safety before use
The employer or client ensures that users can access information showing that a product meets the applicable quality standard. This includes maintenance, configuration, expiry date, sterility and correct connection to the infrastructure.
Demonstrating authorisation and competence
Users must be able to demonstrate that they are authorised and competent to perform procedures with a device. Users must be sufficiently competent before using a product for the first time. It must also be clear when authorisation expires and further training is due. This also applies to technicians who maintain equipment.
Accreditation Platform can store certificates. Trainers and training institutes can confirm completed requirements, and users can receive reminders when further training is due. Managers can view the record if desired.
