What does the Covenant for Safe Application of Medical Technology contain and what is important to you as a healthcare provider?

The Covenant for Safe Application of Medical Technology describes procedures stating that all instruments, equipment, etc. must be checked and used in such a way that safety is guaranteed. In other words, a safe product in the hands of a trained user.

The covenant states that your employer or client ensures that you have access to the information showing that the product meets the applicable quality standard with regard to maintenance, configuration, expiration date, sterility and correct connection to the infrastructure before you use the product.

This covenant also states that the authority and competence of the users to perform actions with the device must be demonstrable. When you use a product for the first time, you must be sufficiently competent. And it must be visible when the authority expires, so when you need further training. (This demonstrability also applies to the technicians who perform maintenance on equipment).

You can keep track of your authority and competence in the Accreditation Platform. Certificates can be uploaded, your trainer and training institute can check off what you have achieved, you will receive a signal when you need to go for further training, you have a clear overview yourself, your manager can view it if desired and so can institutions such as the IGZ... and there are many more possibilities.
